About Huipiles

Huipiles
A huipil (pronounced "wee-PEEL" and sometimes spelled guipil) is the traditional woven blouse worn by women and girls in Guatemala. Patterns and styles vary by village, and the art of weaving on the back-strap loom is passed from mother to daughter.

Here is a photo I took on my first visit to Guatemala, of a woman weaving in a village called San Antonio Aguas Calientes:

I went to Guatamala 2 years ago. My daughters best friends family comes from Pinula (I think that's how you spell it). It was a great vacation!
