People and Animals

Here are a few neat examples of huipiles that feature people and animals in the weaving. Quetzales (Guatemala's national bird), birds in realistic depiction, and lions are relatively common to see on huipiles from places like Quetzaltenango, Santiago Atitlan, and Nahuala, respectively, but here are a few that are a little different.

The fabric with the people and with the ducks is from Tactic, and the fabric with the butterflies is from Santiago Atitlan.

Heya -- I only just found your blog but love it already -- included you in my nominees for the Brilliante blog award. I just can't resist the colours and am tempted to try to find some huipiles of my own to play with.

Now, how I'll do that in Colorado I'm not sure...
